Mudlarking on the Thames foreshore
One of my favourite things to do is take a walk along the Southbank, over the Millenium Bridge and then down onto the Thames foreshore. As I’m sure every Londoner will agree, the views from the bridge over the city and down the Thames are simply wonderful. If you’re crossing the Millenium bridge from the Southbank there are some steps on the north down to the river, a little way to the right of the bridge. It’s not always possible to get onto the beach because of the tide so be sure to check the tide table before you set off!
On the shore you’re rewarded with space and something close to silence (as good as you’re going to get in Central London!). I love the contrast between the vibrant Southbank and the solitude of the foreshore with just the seagulls for company. It’s a great place for mudlarking and if you’re lucky you might come by pieces of pottery or a clay pipe from centuries past.
